Broken Hill to Adelaide record breaking run by A.H. Barnes & J.J. McCulloch in the Th. Schneider “record car”

On the 19th August 1925 Arthur Barnes and J. McCulloch broke the record for a motor car between Broken Hill and Adelaide. This feat occurred in the same year as the record breaking Adelaide to Melbourne run in the same Th. Schneider. It was intended that the team would also attempt the records for Sydney to Melbourne and other interstate records but weather and other mishaps would conspire against further records falling. The Broken Hill to Adelaide run of 363 miles was covered in eight hours and three minutes lowering the previous record set by an Amilcar.

The Broken Hill to Adelaide run was not without mishaps with the loss of a rear tyre on a corner causing the car to slew into a ditch. It was reported that speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour were attained along the route.
